Night guards are customized appliances that fit over your teeth to protect them from wear and excessive clenching forces while you sleep. This will also help prolong the longevity of your restorations and preserve the investments you have made in your oral health.
If you are involved in high-impact sports, an athletic guard may also help protect your teeth from trauma while you train.
If you exhibit signs of tooth clenching or grinding, please speak with our doctors about how a customized nightguard could alleviate your condition. During your assessment, they will also evaluate your airway and let you know if a sleep study is advisable to rule out sleep apnea.
For the first 3 days after receiving your new night guard, put in your appliance 1-2 hours prior to bed. This will allow time for your mouth and brain to adjust to the new appliance prior to sleep. Subsequently, wear your appliance at night time.
In the morning, rinse and brush your night guard without toothpaste.
Keep your night guard away from pets.
Bring your night guard to your dental appointments.
If you experience any tooth or jaw discomfort, please call our office so the appliance may be adjusted.
